Intensive Spanish Courses

Located in the countries capital San Jose, Veritas is a private University created in 1976; since its foundation the academic excellence demonstrated through out the years, accredits Veritas as one of the most prestigious Universities in the country.

Course placement is often based on a on site placement test results and a written test via the internet.Course SPN101 Básico 1 (80 hours)Spanish for beginners, emphasizing broad competence  in the basic skills:  Understanding, reading, writing and cross cultural perspective.

Course SPN 102 Básico 2 (80hours)Designed for students who have completed a minimum of 60 contact  hours in Spanish Grammar.  Students will expand their language in order to facilitate interaction with the Costa Rica environment.

Course SPN 201 Intermedio 1 (80 hours Pre requisite: 102Emphasizing on oral and written presentation, more complex grammatical structure.

Course SPN 202 Intermedio 2 (80 hours) Pre requisite: 201Vocabulary building and emphasis in review and practice of complex grammatical structure.  Idiomatic expression with Costa Rican usage.

Course SPN 210  Español Conversacional Intermedio (80 hours) Pre requisite 202Emphasis  on situational everyday conversation.  Structure speech to provide firm base in pattern of spoken Spanish with progression  towards free conversation.

Course SPN 301 Avanzado 1 (80 hours)Grammatical analysis, expansion of vocabulary, idiomatic expression through reading, and student composition at a complex level.  This course includes attendance for two complementary class hours weekly in literature, ecology and history course. Taught in Spanish.

Course SPN 202 Avanzado 2 (80 hours)Level of diction, study of idiomatic language and the varieties of Spanish spoken in different Spanish speaking nations.  Includes attendance for two complementary class hours weekly in literature, ecology and history course. Taught in Spanish.

Course SPN 310 Español Conversacional Avanzado (80 hours)For advance students wishing to attain greater proficiency in the spoken language.  Strongly recommended for majors.

Course  SPN 340 Técnicas de Expression OraL (80 HOURS) Pre requisite 301Advance level students who wish to learn and practice oral techniques used in conversation in order to increase fluency.

Course SPN 304 Español para Negocios (60 hours)
Development of basic technical vocabulary, commercial correspondence and memos in Spanish in preparation for careers in International Business.  Specific topics include up to date terminology, conventions and usage, business vocabulary.

Course SPN 320 Herencia Cultural en Latinoamérica (80 hours) Pre requisite 301This course studies relevant topics and issues in the development of cultural heritage in Latin American with emphasis in Costa Rica.  Taught in Spanish.

Course SPN 410 Redacción Avanzada (80 hours)A study of complex and difficult syntax and points of grammar. Special attention is given to composition and explication of text under investigation. Taught in Spanish.

Spanish Courses for Health Professionals

Courses consist of:

1. Spanish Course (80 elective hours - 4 hours daily for four weeks.
2. Comunication Experience (20 elective hours - 5 hours per week) Health talks, visit health centers to observe the attention given to real patients and receive exhibitions of film and videos in Spanish   related to the health theme.

Each Friday the student will do an interview with a simulated patient in Spanish in wich be put in practice the knowledge an skills acquired during the week.  This interview will be recorded and later analyzed with the student to asses the student successes and posible weaknesses.
