Tortuguero National Park

Is located on the Northern Caribbean slope of the country. A navigable network of lakes and canals running parallel to the coast crosses Tortuguero from southeast to northwest.

 

This allows the great variety of flora & fauna of the region to be close at hand. Tortuguero is the most important nesting area for the green turtle Chelonia mydaswhich come every year to lay their eggs along this coast.
